The rally at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park was held one day after Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, ended his 63-day Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (march for unity) in the city.
The Opposition alliance led by India’s Congress party, known as the INDIA alliance, will gather for a grand rally in Mumbai on Sunday at Shivaji Park. The event will be attended by prominent leaders of the INDIA alliance, including Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin, as part of the concluding rally for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting takes place the day following the conclusion of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s 63-day Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Mumbai. Gandhi paid homage to Dr. BR Ambedkar at his memorial, Chaityabhoomi, and recited the Constitution’s Preamble. The yatra began in Manipur on January 14 and entered Mumbai on Saturday from neighbouring Thane.
In addition to MK Stalin, prominent opposition leaders Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena UBT), Sharad Pawar (NCP), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), and Akhilesh Yadav (SP) will attend the mass rally. Saurabh Bharadwaj (AAP), Dipankar Bhattacharya (CPI), Farooq Abdullah (National Conference), and Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren will also be present. Kalpana Soren, wife of former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, will additionally participate in the event, as reported by PTI.
In addition to convening, the gathering will signify the commencement of the electoral drive by the INDIA bloc for the imminent Lok Sabha elections, whose timetable was unveiled by the Election Commission on Sunday. The electoral process for the impending Lok Sabha elections is set to unfold across seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. The tabulation of votes is slated for June 4.
Rahul Gandhi to take out Nyay Sankalp Padyatra
Before the upcoming major rally of the INDIA bloc, Rahul Gandhi, a leader from the Congress party, will lead a “Nyay Sankalp Padyatra” this Sunday from Mani Bhavan to August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai, according to a party leader cited by PTI. Gandhi will also engage with people at Tejpal Hall, near August Kranti Maidan. It’s significant to note that Mani Bhavan was Mahatma Gandhi’s residence during his visits to Mumbai, while Tejpal Hall holds historical importance as the venue where the Congress party was established on December 28, 1885.
The Indian National Congress (INC) is holding a rally in Maharashtra despite facing a setback. Leading members of the party from the state have recently defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. Chavan switched allegiance to the BJP in Mumbai on February 13th.
Amidst the midweek haze, Padmakar Valvi, a seasoned figure in the political arena, took a significant leap, aligning himself with the BJP ranks. The bustling city of Mumbai bore witness to this momentous occasion, with the eminent presence of Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the esteemed state president of BJP, and Ashok Chavan, a prominent figure within the party’s echelons. Such alliances, forged in the crucible of political dynamism, echo the unpredictable rhythms of the socio-political landscape.
At a rally in Dharavi on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi pledged that the Congress would conduct a caste census if elected in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He also promised to deposit 1 lakh annually in the bank accounts of poor women. Gandhi affirmed that the people of Dharavi should have ownership of their neighbourhood and its resources. He emphasised the value of local skills and advocated for transforming Dharavi into a manufacturing hub. Addressing the Adani Group’s involvement in redeveloping Dharavi, Gandhi criticised the concentration of national wealth in the hands of corporations.
