Among the top performing states according to the list were Maharashtra, followed by MP and CHhattisgarh.
Indore, Surat declared as the country’s cleanest cities on Thursday, while Navi Mumbai retained its third place in the Central government’s annual cleanliness survey. Indore retained its cleanliness title for the 7th consecutive year.
Maharashtra was also listed as one of the top performing states in the list, followed by MP and CH.
The winners were presented to them by Droupadi murmu, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, among others, at an event in the national capital.

Saswad in Maharashtra received the award for the cleanest city title in the category of the urban centers with less than 1 lakh population. Patan, which is in the state of Haryana, came in second place and Lonavla, which is in Maharashtra, came in third place. Varanasi, also in Haryana, was declared as the cleanest ganga town. Prayagraj, on the other hand, received the award for cleanest Ganga town.
In fact, since 2016, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHA) has been carrying out the largest-ever global survey on Urban Sanitation and Cleanliness, known as swachh surveyskshan. Swachh surveys have played a vital role in creating a healthy competition among cities and towns, encouraging them to improve their services to the people and work towards cleaner urban spaces.
The survey began in 2016 with a coverage of 73 major cities. Since then, the scope of the survey has broadened to cover 4,485 cities.
